From the collection Five Part-Songs from the Greek Anthology. Greek Anthology is a collection of poems from the classical and Byzantine periods of Greek literature (mainly two manuscripts from the 10th and 14th centuries). Elgar set five of these poems to music to English translations by Alma Strettell. The work is dedicated to Sir Walter Parrat, his predecessor as Master of Music to the Queen.
